Montrose Farmers' Market

Photo: Montrose Farmers' Market. This is held on the 1st Saturday of each month, 9am - 1pm, Town House Car Park, Tel: 01307 464392  A well organised Market, held in the centre of the town, it has really taken off and is being extremely well supported. It has tremendous choice, including Abroath Smokies, being smoked on the spot, and is very well advertised. Great for the visiting holiday maker as well as the locals.

Photo: fmark.I am sure it is going to be a great success, especially if we continue to support it by going along and buying the fresh and healthy food on a regular basis.

The variety and quality of food was excellent, and the shoppers were certainly enjoying the experience of being able to talk to individuals about their produce, instead of just picking things from the shelves at the supermarket...

The farmers markets run EVERY month during the year,in the High Street  Montrose on the FIRST Saturday of the month, Forfar on the SECOND Saturday of the month.  An increasing number of shoppers attend both markets  enjoying a sociable shopping experience where traceability of food from farmgate to plate is a priority. Many have certainly got the market habit,  maybe  the weather cannot be guaranteed but, a wide variety of local food, soaps and plants always can.

December 2009 Market

What a long time it has been since I wrote this blog for the Farmers' Market.

Never having been in hospital for an operation before certainly set me back with regards to the site. I have missed blethering away to people and meeting new people who come to our town.

My New Year resolution is to get back on track and write more and take lots of shots again, both for here and on www. Montrose Images.com

As I walked around this December Market it was obvious that the wet weather was keeping the regular customers from stopping and having their usual news with friends and stallholders. It was a case of in and out, buying what was needed, and heading home to the warmth and shelter on a wet and miserable winter's day.

I had a chat with one or two businesses who were still cheery despite the rain, it wasn't cold, and they were looking forward to coming along to the Montrose Extravaganza next Sunday ( 12 - 5pm ).

The first new stallholder I met was Loaf Face

I have a soft spot for breads, and they certainly had a good selection of  bread as well as shortbread and biscuits.

One thing I learned is that you don't have to be a doctor to make good food, but it would appear that it might be an advantage. The reason I mention this is that on the stall was Dr Elaine Adam and her father. Elaine said that there were two doctors in the family, but she didn't say who the other one was.

I had a taste of some of the samples on display and I was convinced enough to buy myself a nice loaf for my next bowl of pasta. I'll let you know how it goes later!

As I wandered round I met one or two familiar faces who love having their photograph taken. See what you think, and do you recognise any of them.

I have to say that on this occasion the best stall has to be the Fish Stall, especially because of the hats... well into the seasonal humour! It was a close call with the Veg. She even had two hats to confuse people with her disguise!
